The Ortega Family planted their first vines in Rioja in 1896, when Quintín Ortega, a barrel-maker by trade decided to go a step further and plant some grapes, he then refurbised a wine cellar into a winery.
His great grandson, Carmelo Ortega is now head of the family and winery and they are one of those winemaking families that have successfully managed to adapt to modern times, preserving their philosophy of quality and craftsmanship in their wines and adapting to present-day oenology.
