Two Gold Medals for Perelada Wines

We are pleased to announce that our friends at Perelada have won two golds for Finca Malaveîna and Només Garnacha Blanca at this year's Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

The judging panel of the 26th Edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which took place in Aigle, Switzerland, from the 2nd to the 5th of May, has newly awarded medals to Perelada wines. On this occasion, Perelada Finca Malaveïna 2015 and Perelada Només Garnacha Blanca 2018 have been singled out for the Gold Medal, and Perelada 5 Finques Reserva 2015 has obtained a Silver Medal.

Finca Malaveïna comes from a single vineyard estate on whose slopes the red clay is interspersed with gravel and quartz, thus contributing to the good drainage of this soil which began to be planted in 1996. Comprised of 19 hectares located in the municipality of Garriguella in the Alt Empordà region, this vineyard produces grapes from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Garnatxa, Syrah and Cabernet Franc varietals which form part of the distinct blend that is created every year for the prestigious Finca Malaveïna wine. Boasting a deep ruby red robe, the wine entices with its dark fruit aromas interlaced with fine toasted and balsamic note. On the palate it is round, fleshy, and with a good structure. It is well- balanced, with a rich mouthfeel and a long aftertaste.

Perelada Només Garnacha Blanca 2018 is a monovarietal of the Grenache blanc grape with a brilliant pale straw color and light green nuances. It is intense on the nose, with the scent of fresh fruits intermingling with notes of aromatic herbs notes and aniseed. On the palate it is lively, balanced and unctuous. It is a complex wine, with a lovely persistence and a clearly marked varietal personality.

Perelada 5 Finques Reserva 2015 is a complex wine that expressed the different microclimates, terroirs and varietals of the Empordà. It is a blend made from Cabernet Sauvignon (26%), Garnatxa Negra (25%), Syrah (23%), Merlot (17%), Samsó (7%), Monastrell (1%), and Cabernet Franc (1%). The wine has an intensely deep red robe, with aromas of dark red fruits and berries and hints of spices and balsamic notes on a toasted background. On the mouth it is fresh, well- structured and balanced. The tannins are clearly present, but well integrated and silky. It is a wine with a lot of personality and a long aftertaste.

International Wine Challenge Red Winemaker of the Year

Shortlisted for International Wine Challenge Red Winemaker of the Year

We are delighted for our Argentine friends Bodegas Fabre who have once again been shortlisted for the International Wine Challenge Red Winemaker of the Year.

Their extremely talented owner and winemaker Hervé Joyaux Fabre was crowned Red Winemaker of the Year by the IWC last year, but to be nominated again for this prestigious title is an outstanding achievement.

Hervé is the talent behind our Fabre Montmayou and Viñalba wines and his ethos is to make wines which express the “terroir” of Argentina and the fruit from which they are made. Hervé is originally from Bordeaux but moved to Argentina in the early 1990’s where he bought 15 hectares of old Malbec vines planted in 1908. With wineries in Mendoza and Patagonia Hervé was one of the first foreigners to recognise the potential of Malbec as a single varietal and he has won international critical acclaim for his wines.

We wish him all the best of luck when the results are announced in July!
